《吸血鬼猎人D》为日本奇幻文学作家菊地秀行的小说系列，目前已被翻译成多种语言并改编成OVA、动画电影、游戏、漫画等多种版本。《吸血鬼猎人D》全系列作品的封面与内页插画，皆由天野喜孝所绘制。30多年来，天野已成为这部作品背后的灵魂人物。1985年，在小说成功推出两年后，所改编的第一部《吸血鬼猎人D》动画电影，便委托其负责人物设计。

故事中的英雄人物“D”为”dhampir”，一位介于吸血鬼和人类之间人物，其丰富奇妙的冒险经历与人物设定，和天野精心绘制的封面与内页插画成为最佳组合。即便是今天，谈及日本粉丝心目中最喜爱的天野作品，《吸血鬼猎人D》仍名列首选之一。

Vampire Hunter D

A novel series by Japanese fantasy author Hideyuki Kikuchi, translated into multiple foreign languages and adapted into OVA, animation, games, and manga. The covers and illustrations of the whole series are done by Yoshitaka Amano. Over three decades, Yoshitaka Amano has become the soul of the series. In 1985, two years after the launch of the first volume, the adapted animation film had Yoshitaka Amano design characters.

The protagonist D is dhampir, a character between vampire and mankind who embarks on a great adventure. The great story is well presented by Amano’s illustrations, which provide a perfect match. Even today, the story is among Amano’s most popular works.

“Vampire Hunter D is the very first project I took part in after leaving Tatsunoko. An editorial agent at Asahi Sonorama saw my illustrations with SF Magazine and contacted me. I cooperated with the author through the link of the publisher. Until many years later, I finally met the author.”

“I must create a color cover and six black-and-white illustrations for each volume, which is the basic task. Given the big popularity of the series, I was often commissioned to create extra posters and collections. When creating pieces for illustration collections, actually I’d invite the author to write extra stories for new illustrations. Since 1983, I’ve created countless works for the series.”
